Environmental Organizations

American Bird Conservancy: Conserving native birds and their habitats, not just in the United States, but throughout all of the Americas – birds don’t know borders!

Association of Environmental Professionals:  Anyone who is “green” in their working life, you should join this and meet other, like-minded individuals, sharing resources, knowledge and ideas.

Audubon: Is working for the birds too, as well as other wildlife in North America, protecting their habitats not just for their benefit, but for the benefit of the earth.

Co-Op America: With their slogan “Economic Action For A Just Planet” they aim to harness the power of consumers to create and maintain a sustainable planet for our children, and our children’s children, and their children too.

Environmental Defense Fund: Working with governments and other corporations helping to create environmental programs, policies and initiatives- they’ve won loads of awards for it!

Friends of the Earth: They’re also friends of people, plants, animals, land, water and air and are committed to stopping global warming, with a little help from their friends.

Forest Stewardship Council: Any green retailer which has certification from the FSC is one which you know isn’t just trying to pull the proverbial green wool over your eyes.

Greenpeace:  They’ve been saving whales and protesting against nuclear testing for 40 years, along with a whole lot more.

Heal the Bay:  This regional environmental organization is dedicated to cleaning up the waters of Southern California, but has inspired many other environmental organizations around the world to follow suit – a bit of a leader then.

National Geographic Society:  Has been bringing the wonders the natural world to the world for more than 120 years, promoting cultural and natural conservation and teaching us all about what an amazing place this world of ours is.

National Wildlife Federation: Has worked since 1936 (thanks to Franklin Delano Roosevelt) preserving the indigenous animals of the United States, with more than 4 million members working for the cause.

Rainforest Action Network: Describing themselves as “environmentalists with teeth”, they’re certainly not afraid to make a stand against corporations “persuading” them to clean up their acts.

Save The Planet: Humorous look at what we can do to save the planet (and our shorts).

Sierra Club: One of the oldest and most respected environmental organizations on the planet, fighting the earths cause since 1892.

Surfrider Foundation: This non profit environmental organization is similar to Heal the Bay, starting by protecting the coastal and marine life of California but nowadays supporting ocean conservation groups all over the world.

The Nature Conservancy : Protecting Nature and Preserving Life since 1951, in fact, they’re one of the most effective and successful environmental organizations in the world, with more than 700 scientists in the payroll.

United States Environmental Protection Agency:  They’ve been on the frontline of protecting the environment and health for more than 40 years – they should know a thing or two about it then.

Wildlife Conservation Society: Where would we be without the WCS, well, we wouldn’t be in one of the large system of urban parks they so lovingly run, that’s for sure – keeping people and nature connected.

World Wildlife Fund: Everyone recognizes their iconic panda logo, and with 5 million members worldwide (1.2 million in the States) they’re no ”teddy bears” when it comes to helping preserve nature and its vulnerable creatures.

Worldwatch Institute: Has a “Vision for a Sustainable World” and have been working towards it since 1974.
